Minnie Olivia Pizzeria, from former New Realm chef, now open in Alpharetta

A longtime Atlanta chef has broadened his culinary horizons with his newest venture.

Minnie Olivia Pizzeria, which opened in Alpharetta on Friday, comes from Julio Delgado, who previously served as the executive chef at New Realm Brewing and the now-shuttered JP Atlanta.

The menu features a variety of wood-fired pizzas, pastas and Italian small plates, as well a full bar.

The restaurant is named for Minnie Olivia Dodd, the daughter of James Madison Dodd and Sara Ann Dodd, who owned the Dodd Hotel building where the restaurant is located.

The space offers seating for 38 indoors, including a small bar, and about 40 on an outdoor patio.

Delgado, a native of Puerto Rico, said while pizza isn’t part of his culinary heritage, he “loves a good pizza” and referenced local pizzerias Antico, Ammazza and Nina & Raffi as spots he’s hoping to emulate.

An Alpharetta resident for 14 years, Delgado said he’s witnessed the city’s growth firsthand and wanted to make his mark on what he considers a dining destination in its own right. In addition to Minnie Olivia, he’s also working on a sit-down dining concept next door that he said should be ready to open in about a year and a half.
